Caring for the environment

Protecting our greatest resource, water

  • Green systems for towel and sheet changes.
  • Appliances that optimise water consumption (Flow Regulator technology) on all our taps, guaranteeing optimal flow and comfort; dual flush systems for WCs etc.
  • Reuse of tertiary treated water for watering our gardens at PortBlue Club Pollentia Resort & Spa****.
  • Sector water meters for daily monitoring of general water consumption (pool, irrigation, osmosis).
  • We constantly analyse our performance to rapidly detect any issues.
  • Native plant varieties in our gardens.

Reducing the carbon footprint

  • We prioritise action for greater energy efficiency.
  • Gradual automation in our buildings.
  • Optimisation of energy use by recovering heat from refrigeration machinery.
  • Installation of timers and movement sensors for lighting in public areas.
  • LED lighting in most installations.
  • Purchase of appliances and electronic equipment takes energy efficiency criteria into account.
  • Automatic switch-off system for air conditioning if windows/doors are left open.
  • Ongoing training of all staff in good practices and energy optimisation.
  • Comprehensive monitoring and analysis of energy use, by sector where possible, for rapid detection of issues.

More sustainable raw materials

  • We are gradually replacing single-use hygiene products in all our rooms.
  • Locally-sourced and seasonal products are increasingly requested by our customers, who wish to enjoy a different kind of holiday.
  • At PortBlue we value this enthusiasm for learning about our local gastronomy, and our buffets include zero-kilometre products.
  • Other items, such as cellulose (serviettes, toilet paper etc) carry the EU Ecolabel, and in many cases are made from recycled paper.
  • We choose recycled materials when replacing our outdoor furniture.

Waste management

  • In our hotels, recycling is evident in every area, involving both our staff and our guests.
  • We keep records of all waste generated by type, and thanks to this data we know that in 2021 we recycled 3% more than in 2020 at our hotels.
  • All single-use items have disappeared from our bars and restaurants, and we are also working to remove single-portion items in 2022.
  • For takeaway meals, we use compostable containers.
  • Our printer cartridges are recyclable by the manufacturer.
  • Other specific waste products are disposed of in a manner that ensures recycling or reuse – such as used cooking oil, which becomes biodiesel.
  • Garden waste is collected by a specialist company and subsequently used as organic compost.
